Acerca de
“Polvo de océanos” es una (especie de)
novela que escribí durante los últimos dos años. Sin tener una idea muy clara
acerca de cómo escribir una novela pregunté a mi amigo escritor James Knight
qué camino podría seguir, y él me contestó que simplemente escribiera y que la
historia se iba a desarrollar sola. Un consejo tan incierto solo podía ser
correcto.
Así, empecé a escribir fragmentos y la
historia y la estructura fueron desarrollándose solas. Por supuesto, cambiaron
varias veces en el camino, pero –curiosamente- al final logré escribir una
historia como había deseado hacerlo hace más de 20 años: una historia que
estuviera formada por fragmentos que a su vez también constituyeran pequeñas
historias. Lo intenté hace muchos años y nunca pude terminar.
Sin embargo, entonces mi forma de
escribir era otra y –tal vez más importante- no había tuíter. La forma
atomizada de escribir que he practicado los últimos años me dio las
herramientas para finalmente escribir una historia como quería. Pero el
resultado vino sin que yo lo hubiera planeado, simplemente un día, revisando
uno de los borradores me di cuenta de que, sin querer, lo había logrado.
Por supuesto, esto de escribir es un
proceso en el que se aprende siempre. Compartir lo que se escribe llega no en
el momento en el que lo escrito se considera perfecto, sino en el momento en el
que la balanza entre dejarlo ir o seguir corrigiéndolo por siempre, se inclina
ligeramente hacia un lado. Y así, es como “Polvo de océanos” ha salido de las
profundidades.

“Polvo
de océanos” (Oceans’ dust) is a novella (kind of) that I wrote over the last
two years. Without having a clear idea about how to write a novella, I asked my
friend (and writer) James Knight about how could I do it, he told me that I
should simply write and that the story would develop by itself. Such an
uncertain advice could only be right.
So
I started writing and the story and the structure (in fact) developed by
themselves. Of course, they changed several times on the way, and I managed to
write a story exactly the way I’ve wanted more than 20 years ago: a story made
by fragments that were small stories themselves. I tried to do this ages ago
and I could never finished.
However,
back then my writing was different and maybe more importantly: there was no
twitter. The atomized way of writing that I have practiced over the last two
years gave me the tools that I needed to finally write a story the way I wanted
to. Yet, the result was not planned. One day, when I was reading one of the
drafts, I just realized that I have done it.
Unquestionably,
writing is a process where you never stop learning. Sharing what you have
created does not come when you think it is perfect, but when the balance between
letting it go and keep making changes forever, inclines slightly to one of the
sides. And that’s exactly how “Polvo de océanos” came out of the depths.
